Dare to Be Different is a feature-length documentary marking the 20th anniversary of one of New Zealand’s greatest sporting triumphs: Michael Campbell’s unforgettable victory at the 2005 US Open.

From Titahi Bay to the world stage, Michael’s journey is one of grit, belief, and brilliance. The film traces his rise from humble beginnings to defeating golf’s biggest names, including Tiger Woods, and becoming a national hero.

Produced by Sports Inc. and filmed across New Zealand, the United States, Scotland and Spain, the documentary features exclusive interviews with global golfing legends Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Colin Montgomerie, alongside New Zealand icons Phillip Tataurangi, Steve Williams, Greg Turner and more. It also offers intimate reflections from Campbell’s family and friends, painting a rich portrait of the man behind the major.

Dare to Be Different is a celebration of determination, sporting legacy, and the power of daring to dream. It reflects Michael’s early challenges and the sacrifices he made to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
