In 2002 Hertz Car Rental was looking for a client hospitality event to build brand awareness and preference within their key target audience of car rental/lease executives and influencers. The brief given to Sports Inc was that the event also had to be innovative and to enhance relationships with existing customers and suppliers.

Sports Inc's solution was the Hertz Longest Drive Competition - a corporate golf event with a difference. The Longest Drive was a three-hour event held at prestigious golf courses throughout New Zealand. Guests of Hertz were invited to enjoy and afternoon of entertainment, mix with sporting and media personalities and to take their spot on the tee and hit 3 golf balls as far as they could!!

The event was a huge success with 500 business executives attending the events. High profile co-sponsors; Qantas and Ford came onboard and media interest was high. A key result for Hertz was direct sales and new accounts were opened as a result of the event. New Zealand's golfing knight Sir Bob Charles was also on hand to present the trophies to the competition winners.

To reinforce the success of the Hertz Longest Drive, the event was recognised as a finalist in the 2002 New Zealand Sports Sponsorship Awards.
